How to Play
How the daily Bible word game works
The Basics
Verso shows you a Bible verse with every letter hidden behind a number. Your goal is to figure out which letter each number stands for and reveal the verse. We use the World English Bible translation.
Key Rules:
- Each letter maps to exactly one other letter (e.g., if A=F in one place, it's F everywhere)
- Some letters are revealed at the start to help you get going
- You have 8 lives - each wrong guess costs a life
- The number beneath each cell is a code - cells with the same number represent the same letter
- Tap a cell to select it, then use the on-screen keyboard to enter your guess
- Stuck? Tap the lightbulb to spend a hint and reveal every instance of one letter. You start with a few; earn more by completing pack levels and from your daily login bonus
Strategy tip: Look for short words, common patterns (like "THE"), and repeated letters. When you select a cell, all cells with the same code number are highlighted in purple so you can spot the pattern.
Game Modes
Daily Challenge
A new puzzle every day at midnight UTC. Complete it to maintain your streak! Everyone gets the same daily puzzle, so you can compare your time with friends.
Puzzle Packs
Curated collections of themed puzzles with increasing difficulty. Each pack contains multiple levels - work through them at your own pace. Packs range from beginner-friendly (more letters revealed) to challenging (fewer hints to start with).
Multiplayer (PvP)
Challenge friends in real-time! Race to decode the same verse and see who can solve it first. Track your progress against opponents and compete for the top spot.
Energy
Puzzle Packs use an energy system. You spend energy when you fail a level (run out of lives). Energy regenerates over time, so check back later if you run out.
Energy Details:
- Maximum of 5 energy
- Energy regenerates every 30 minutes
- Completing a level successfully does not cost energy
- Running out of lives on a pack level costs 1 energy
- The Daily Challenge does not use energy
How Multiplayer Works
Playing with Friends:
- Create a Match: Click "Multiplayer" to create a new game lobby
- Share the Link: Send the lobby link to your friends so they can join
- Wait for Players: Once everyone is ready, the match begins automatically
- Race to Solve: Everyone gets the same puzzle - first to complete wins!
- Watch Progress: See a live leaderboard showing each player's progress
Note: Multiplayer matches don't affect your daily streak or energy. They're purely for competitive fun!
Building Your Streak
Complete the Daily Challenge each day to build and maintain your streak. A flame icon shows your current streak count.
Streak Tips:
- The daily puzzle resets at midnight UTC
- Complete today's puzzle before the day ends to keep your streak alive
- The flame stays bright when you've completed today's puzzle!
